Young Artist Workshops

Register early to avoid disappointment!

Registration must take place no later than two weeks prior to the start date of a workshop.  Registrations after this date will only be accepted if space permits.  Payment in full by cash, cheque, debit card, Visa, Mastercard or American Express must be received with registrations.  A post-dated cheque, dated for one-month prior to the start date of a workshop, will be considered payment in full.

For youth workshops, the registration fee includes all materials.  See our catalogue or About the Art School for our cancellation policy.  Quest also offers sponsored placements based on financial need and a strong interest in the visual arts.  Contact our office staff for more information.

October 16, 23, 30, November 6, 13, 2010 - Creative Cartooning

Instructor: Bob Kain

Fee:$165, includes all materials

Ages: 9 to 14

Times: 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

This series of five workshops will be a mixed bag of large and small cartoons.  They will include small drawings for animated flip-books, three-dimensional renderings, life-sized newspaper-stuffed people, large illustrations of people where sections are mixed up to create funny combinations, and experimenting with various non-conventional drawing tools, techniques and approaches.

Bob Kain is a freelance cartoonist/illustrator who creates for the children's magazine CHIRP and teaches in schools throughout York Region and Simcoe County.  He is a graduate of the Ontario College of Art and the School of Visual Arts in New York City.  He has extensive experience developing cartoons for commercials, TV, newspapers and children's publications.

November 20, 2010 - Draw with Coloured Marker

Instructor:  Cathy Pascoe

Fee: $50, includes all materials

Ages:6 to 9              

Time:9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

During this one-day workshop, participants will learn basic drawing skills using coloured markers.

Cathy has a B.A. in French and German and her B.Ed.  She has taught elementary school from junior kindergarten to Grade 8 for three different school boards during her 30-year career.  She is interested in portraiture in graphite pencil and has recently begun working in pencil crayon.

November 27, 2010 - Draw with Pencil Crayon
