Exhibition Requirements

•·         All members are invited to bring in their work for display and sale at the Quest Gallery.

•·         There are themed shows running for a few months at a time throughout the year.  Contact the gallery for upcoming themes and drop-off days.

•·         Work must be dropped off and picked up on the specified days.  STORAGE IS NOT AVAILABLE and Quest assumes no responsibility for work not picked up on the specified dates.

•·         Quest is covered by fire and public liability insurance only and artists are responsible for insurance coverage of their own work while displayed at the gallery.

•·         Hanging fees for two-dimensional work are $3 per square foot or a minimum of $24 a month.  Maximum space per artist is 6 ft x 5 ft.

•·         Hanging fees for three-dimensional work are $8 per square foot per month and $20 a month for jewellery.

•·         All work must be for sale and Quest receives a 20% commission on all sales.

•·         Work must hang for the duration of the show, unless sold.  Sold work may be replaced by another piece by the same artist.

•·         All framed work hanging on the walls must be original work - reproductions are only allowed in the bins with the unframed work.

•·         All pieces shown in the gallery must be the member's original concept.  Copies of other work, including photos from magazines, books or masterpieces may not be displayed as your own work.  Work done in a workshop, from the instructor's photos or demonstrations may not be shown.

•·         All members are encouraged to display their work at the gallery, however works hung must adhere to certain standards.  The hanging committee will be examining the work for content, elements of design/composition, knowledge, skill and control of medium, originality, presentation and suitability to theme (2D works only).  If the work does not adhere to the above, the work may not be hung.

•·         The card racks and bins are for unframed work and are open to participants of theme shows.  The curator may restrict the number of pieces and monitor presentation.  Participants of theme shows may keep their unframed originals, reproductions and cards in the gallery for up to one year after participating in a theme show.

•·         Any active Quest volunteer may also have work for sale in the racks or bins, but it must be accepted by the selection committee.  This work will be presented to the selection committee when originals are being accepted for theme shows.  Works may or may not stay in the bins/racks during a juried show.

PRESENTATION GUIDELINES

The following applies to all Quest exhibitions.

Two dimensional work:

•·         Works MUST be wired and ready to hang. The hanging committee reserves the right not to hang work which is not properly wired.  DO NOT metal tooth strips or metal side strips.  Place your wire approximately 1/4 to 1/3 from the top of the frame.  Stretch wire straight across when you fasten it, as it will stretch again with the weight of your pieces.

•·         Matting must be acid free, properly cut and clean.

•·         Glass must be clean.

•·         Frames must be clean and unmarred.

•·         Watercolour paintings and photographs must have a paper dust cover on the back.

•·         Work should be signed.

•·         Label the back of the work with artist name, title of work and the medium.

Three dimensional work:

•·         Must be signed and properly labeled with name of artist, title and medium.

Unframed work:

•·         Should be properly presented and reflect the same quality as work hung in the gallery.

•·         Originals and reproductions must be matted with acid free mat board and backed with acid free mat or foam core.

•·         Label must include: name of artist, title, medium and price.  If it is a reproduction, the type of reproduction must be stated.
